I was raised in a small town in north Texas called Holliday, which is located just outside of Wichita Falls. I grew up on a small farm where I learned how to ride horses and to enjoy what a life in the country has to offer. My father was a well thought of educator at a local high school in the community and my mom was a stay-at-home mom; thus, influencing my passion for education. While in high school I excelled in the sport of basketball and through hard work and a serious competitive spirit, I learned what it took to be successful in life. I attended college at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. There I graduated in 2001, with a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts specializing in English with a minor in Sociology. In 2004, I received my teaching certification from LeTourneau University at the Dallas, Texas branch in 4-8th grade English, Language Arts and Reading. I later went on to be tested and certified as a 4-8th grade generalist, allowing me to teach math, science, and social studies. I view myself as a modest, hard working, young woman who enjoys spending time with family, cooking, reading, and writing. My major influences are my parents, a strong commitment to her Christian faith, and Dr. Black, who was one of her college professors at LeTourneau University. Professor Black, a well-respected educator at the university, would cook lunch for us, his students, because the class he taught was on Saturdays from 8-5pm. Because of I have fond memories of my mentor, Professor Black, and I remember that he once said, “Food brings people together”! For as long as I can remember, I have always enjoyed writing. I remember as a little girl sitting in the living room with my parents and instead of talking, I would write notes to my parents; thus, developing my communication and writing skills. Unfortunately, tragedy struck my family when my father, a man I truly admired and had influenced my life, died suddenly of a heart attack when I was 22 years old. This tragic moment in my life influenced me to write a story about my father’s death, an artistically told story of this event, because I want others to find peace and understanding though my words. I also have the drive to teach others how to find peace, understanding, and harmony though their words; thus Jazzy Journaling was created. I contribute my success to the support of my parents, who read and praised every story that I ever wrote! Because of this, I write with great confidence and creativity. My parents were never negative about my writing and I believe this has helped me to really perfect my writing and become successful! During my youth and even today, both of my parents were and still continue to be a large influence in my life, as I speak with my mother at least 3 times daily and as I remember my father’s words of wisdom.
